Adaptasi Budaya Pada Mahasiswa Asing di Indonesia (Studi Fenomenologi Pada Mahasiswa Asing di Kota Bandung)

Abstract

Studying overseas is not something new and bizarre anymore because of the easy access. Indonesia is one of the country who gave easy access for foreign students to study in their country. Tons of foreign students accross the country proves that. The foreign students who chose to study in Indonesia, for sure will have to do cultural adaptation and intercultural communication with Indonesian people. The purposes of this research are to know the strategy foreign students use to deal with cultural adaptation and the strategy they use in order to achieve an effective intercultural communication while studying in Indonesia. The method of this research is phenomenology with interview and observation as the technique to get datas. The results of this research are foreign students use different strategy to adapt with Indonesian cultures, such as increasing tolerance, have a strong will and self concept, also with connecting with Indonesian people. Other than that, foreign students also have different principles they hold in order to reach effective intercultural communication, such as to be open, to be positive, to give good respond, and to be active.
