The aim of this study is to explore the symbolic meaning and socio-cultural functions of the turun mandi tradition in Nagari Batu Gajah, as well as efforts to preserve it amid the pressures of modernization. The research employs a qualitative method with an ethnography of communication approach. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, women who perform the tradition, and the younger generation. The findings reveal that turun mandi is not only a spiritual ritual but also serves as a means of educating the younger generation about traditional values and strengthening the community’s social structure. However, the study also identifies challenges, particularly the declining understanding and participation of young people, which may threaten the tradition's sustainability in the future.
