Abstract

Interpersonal communication is known to play a significant role in an individual's life, particularly in terms of self-control. This is especially true for adolescents, a period characterized by emotional upheaval that requires appropriate guidance from parents. It is hoped that adolescents will eventually be able to exercise self-control over their sexual behavior when influenced by external factors. Therefore, this study aims to assess the effectiveness of interpersonal communication between parents and children about sexuality on self-control of sexual behavior. This is a quantitative research study employing probability sampling techniques. The total number of respondents in this study is 71, selected from a population of 242 high school students from Citra Berkat for the 2023/2024 academic year. The measurement parameters in this study use Likert scales, with tests including validity, reliability, normality, linearity, simple linear regression, simple correlation, determination analysis, and t-tests, all analyzed using IBM SPSS Version 26. The results indicate a positive relationship between the effectiveness of interpersonal communication between parents and children regarding sexuality and self-control of sexual behavior. Interpersonal Communication (X) was found to influence Self-Control (Y) by 7.1%, while the remaining 92.9% is influenced by other factors such as peer influence, mass media, and the choice of research location.
