Nowadays smoking is no longer identical to men. Many women smoke openly. The presence of women smokers is not only in big cities but also in small cities such as Purwokerto. This research aims to analyze and understand the motives and self-concept of women smokers in Purwokerto. The research uses qualitative research methods with phenomenological studies and Maslow's Needs theory. The results of this study show that the motives behind women becoming smokers can be grouped into because of motives, namely social environment, addiction, curiosity and stress. In order to motive, namely physiological sensation, providing benefits to the body, and reducing stress. The self-concept of women smokers in Purwokerto is divided into two, namely positive and negative self-concept. Positive self-concept includes that women who smoke feel no different from women who are not smokers and that smoking is considered not to be fashionable. The negative self-concept, namely smoking, makes women look naughty, makes them embarrassed and feel inferior.
